Eligibility Criteria

• Be an international student from  a MEXT-designated country
• Be a National of  a MEXT-designated country
• Be born on or after April 2, 1990
• Have achieved a GPA of at least 2.30 on a 3.00 scale.

Who is Not Eligible?

• Military Status: Must not be currently serving on active military duty or employed as a civilian by the military.
• Arrival in Japan: Must be able to arrive in Japan within the designated arrival period specified by APU.
• Previous MEXT Scholarships: Must not have received a MEXT scholarship in the past, unless they possess more than three years of educational research experience following the final payment of the previous MEXT scholarship.
• Concurrent MEXT Scholarships: You cannot apply for this scholarship if you are currently applying for another MEXT scholarship.
• Other Scholarships: May not receive financial support from any other scholarship organization while studying at APU
• Visa Status: Must maintain a “student” status in Japan throughout the scholarship period.
• English Proficiency Test: Must submit scores from an English proficiency test taken on or after March 22, 2023.

English Language Proficiency Exemption

If an applicant has completed a previous education from an institute where the language of instruction was English then the applicants can submit an English Language Proficiency letter from the previous institute.
