Are you ready to spend Summer 2026 in Germany? Applications are now open for the HZB International Summer Program 2026. This fully funded eight-week program runs in Berlin from July 6 to August 28, 2026, at HZB’s Berlin campuses. Fellows will have the chance to work on their own research project in close collaboration with HZB scientists in their field. A major advantage of the ISSP is that there is no application fee and no IELTS requirement, with applicants from anywhere in the world eligible to apply. Each year, 20 Bachelor’s and Master’s students participate in the Summer Program in Germany to conduct research on projects with HZB scientists. Details are provided below.

  • Non-European Countries:
    • Total Allowance (Meals, Accommodation, Other): €1900
    • Travel/Airfare (Up to): €800
  • European Countries:
    • Total Allowance (Meals, Accommodation, Other): €1000
    • Travel/Airfare (Up to): €200
  • Residence costs are also covered for everyone.

HZB Summer Program Fields

The Participants will work with Scientists in the Fields of:

Photon Science, Photovoltaics, Solar Cells/Catalysis, Electrochemical Energy Storage, Quantum and Functional Materials, and Accelerator research.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to all students from all countries. EU Students and non-EU students can apply.
  • You must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in a relevant field such as Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Structural Biology, Mathematics, Engineering, Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • You should have completed at least two years of full-time study at a university level.
  • You must be available to participate fully in the program for the entire duration.
  • Good English Communication Skills.
  • You will need to provide a letter of recommendation from a professor or researcher familiar with your academic work.

Conditions of the Program

  • Participation for the entire duration is mandatory.
  • Working time: 40 hours/week.
  • An internship contract of 8 weeks to work on your project.
